You Are Not Alone Mama!
We talk to a lot of mothers about their struggles, frustrations, desires, goals, and what milestones they hope to hit in their breastfeeding goals. What we find is that not one mother’s struggles are entirely unique. Yes, momma, you are the one facing the issue and it is unique to you, but there are millions of women across the globe who have struggled with the same issues.
Though there is not a cookie-cutter remedy that will work for everyone (we wish there was), you are not alone. Nor do you have to face this journey alone.
The American Academy of Pediatrics and the CDC recommend that a mother breastfeeds for at least the first year of a child’s life while the World Health Organization suggests mothers “continue breastfeeding up to the age of two years or beyond” (WHO, 2021).
If you are anything like me just thinking six months down the road can be daunting much less two years! Now add in the pressures of feeding, the anxiety of wondering if baby is getting enough to eat, worrying about your diet, sore breast, cracked nipples, time constraints, oh and the list continues. It is no wonder that by 6 months the number of mothers who breastfeed drops by 73%.
Again, I shout it from the rooftops, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
Through this series of blog posts we are going to look at different challenges that can result in the reduction, and sometimes complete cessation of your milk supply. And show you some tips and tricks, as well as give you advice from different lactation experts.
